Details
A 1942, WWII, Schrader USN Mark V in complete original condition with
full original tinning and a very heavy dark brown patina.
This helmet was manufactured nine months after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor, which brought America into World War II.
It has an obvious original manufacturer’s plaque stating its serial number
number 501A and a September 1942 manufacture date.
BONNETT. The bonnet is in excellent condition with very minor working
dents and dings and is fully covered with its original tinning. The ports
all have original glass that has no cracks or chips. The face port opens
and closes with ease. The four-point exhaust control handle turns with
ease, and the spring of the interior head button functions. The air
channels are complete, and the spitcock turns with ease. The
speaker/transceiver housing has a USN inspector's stamp.
BREASTPLATE. The breastplate is in excellent condition with very minor
working dents and dings and is fully covered with its original tinning.
All four straps, 12 wing nuts, and four shims are original and also
display a strong patina.
The 5 o’clock bastard stud for the air control valve is complete, as is the
locking gate and securing chain.
The T wrench for tightening the breastplate nuts is included.
The helmet comes with both the original stamped “Schrader” non-
return valve and air control valve. Additionally, both have the USN
inspector’s stamp.
It also comes with its original whip made by Swann Rubber Co,
Bucyrus, Ohio, which retains most of its manufacturer’s label and is
dated 1942 or 1943.
This helmet was owned by a long-retired USN Master Diver who stored it
for many years in its original condition, producing a very heavy, dark
brown patina on all the brass components.
A very rare find, a high-quality WWII USN Mark V helmet, complete
with original operating valves, whip, and T wrench.
