Details
British Woolworks, also known as a "Woolie", is a form of traditional sailor’s folk art that emerged in the early 19th century and continued into the early 20th century. Created by embroidering wool onto canvas, these pieces served both as a creative outlet for sailors and as vivid records of their voyages and the ships they served on. Upon returning home, the finished artworks were often cherished as keepsakes by loved ones.
The ship depicted in these works may likely be H.M.S. America, referring to the 74-gun ship of the line launched in 1810 and decommissioned in 1867.
