Details

Vintage shallow-water helmet manufactured by Miller-Dunn in Miami in the 1940s. A US Navy Standard shallow-water diving helmet in good condition, used for repairing ships, docks, and moorings. This was Miller-Dunn's third-generation shallow-water helmet and its most popular model, prized for its simplicity and excellent visibility.

All glass and screws are original and intact. There are a few minor dents, as would be expected.

When I first started collecting diving helmets in the early 1980s, I began with the four manufacturers of US Navy Mark 5s. It took me 16 years to obtain a decent Miller-Dunn Mark 5. During that time, while searching for the "Holy Grail" of helmets, I also came to appreciate the look of shallow-water helmets and began collecting them. This was before the internet, when searching for these treasures was much more challenging. If a customer mentioned a helmet I had on display, I'd ask about their interest; sometimes it was because their father or grandfather had been a diver. Occasionally, that interaction led to a new acquisition. We live in a new age, and thanks to the internet, this helmet can now be obtained by email or phone.
