Details
An early British 20th-century naval training aid, the Tufnell Box was a practical and effective means of teaching naval students the use of signal flags for communication. Named after its inventor, Commander Lionel Tufnell, who became the first Royal Navy Superintendent of signal schools in 1895, this piece is a testament to the evolution of naval instruction. This box is constructed of exquisitely dovetailed joints, offering both durability and historical authenticity.
The top verbiage is hand-painted "Tufnell Box". The interior contains 2 sets of 70 flags each, totaling 140 hand-painted wooden signal flags and other pertinent naval flags. Included are 16 small brass pieces representing nearby vessels, which would affect your signaling duties. Two 16" masts and two 25" masts with brass hooks enable the hanging of the signal flags.
Box measures 26" x 13 1/2" x 5 1/8"
